Brilliant year 1/2 trip

In which areas do we need to improve?

1.Gate should be locked during day

The gate is locked whenever the children are in the playground.  The gate is unlocked at other times to enable visitors to the school to reach the front door.

2.Fans needed for the classrooms in hot weather

All classes have fans to use in hot weather.

3.School to make sure parents are in playground before letting children out of school.

In Reception teachers do not allow children into the playground until they can see a child’s carer.

In year one and two we are encouraging children to be more responsible for themselves and it would not be possible for so many children to be let out individually.  We therefore have to rely on you being in the playground at hometime.  Children are told that if they cannot see the person collecting them they should return to the library and wait until an adult arrives for them.  It would be helpful if you could talk to your child about this too.   If you are delayed in arriving at the end of the day please telephone the school and we will keep your child inside until you arrive.

4.Awarding of more certificates and stickers for children’s achievements

Teachers use stickers and certificates on frequent occasions to reward children’s achievement and behaviour both in class and in assemblies.

5.School dinners expensive with little choice.

School dinners are now managed by Nourish run by Northamptonshire County Council.  They determine the cost and the content of the meals.

6.School trips expensive

We try to keep the cost of school trips as low as possible.  Coach costs are high and to this we have to add entry fees to venues.

7.More ball game opportunities

This is a tricky one because our playground is very near to the road so we have

to try to prevent balls going into the road and causing an accident; hence the

limitations on ball games.  We have endeavoured to overcome this with our slingshot feature (the yellow bowl with holes in it).

8.More competitive edge to sports opportunities with more traditional sports day.

Not having a sports field limits our opportunities for competitive sports.

9.Meeting early in year for Year 1 parents to understand differences between learning in Reception and year 1.

An information session was held for year 1 parents in March of this year and will be repeated at a later date.

10.End of year Parent’s consultation evening.

The end of year report sets out the teacher’s view of how your child has progressed over the year and what your child needs to work on in the future.  If you have any questions the report invites you  to contact the school and make an appointment to meet with the teacher.

11.Whole school Reception reading policy

Both Reception classes follow the same reading policy.  If you have a specific query please do get in touch with the school.

12.A clearer explanation of how the class structure for 2010/11 was going to work.

If you are still unsure of how this is working please come along to the meeting

mentioned in item 9. above.

13.  Home time is very crowded especially around the shelter.

We have endeavoured to overcome this problem by asking Eagle class to exit from their spare classroom.  It would be helpful if, at the end of the school day, year 1 and 2 parents of Swift class could stand near the trim trail.

14.Details of websites that will support children’s learning.

Details of some useful websites for learning can be found on the school website

www.raundsparkinfants.org.uk.  There are far too many educational websites for us to make a comprehensive list but you can look these up on google.

15.Communication – sometimes it’s last minute

Sometimes circumstances mean that information has to be sent out at short notice. However, we always endeavour to send out communications in good time.

16.More options for events e.g day and evening meeting for same event.

Wherever possible we offer alternative times for events.  However, staff are usually involved in teaching during the day so that opportunities for putting on events at those times is limited.

What events organised by the school have you found useful? Are there others you would like us to organise in the future?

Found Useful:

Reception Stay and play sessions

All after school events useful

Sports events at Manor and St. Peters

Many thanks for your continued support.
