

School Context
Raunds Park Infant School has a school population mainly consisting of white European children, with approximately three percent of the pupils coming from a different ethnic background. All current members of staff are white European. There have been no major racist incidents in school.
Aims and Values
The aims of the school are to eliminate unlawful racial discrimination and to promote equal opportunities and good race relations in all areas of school life. These areas include:
- progress, attainment and assessment;
- behaviour, discipline and exclusion:
- pupils' personal development and pastoral care;
- teaching and learning;
- admission and attendance;
- the curriculum;
- staff recruitment and professional development
- partnerships with parents and guardians, and communities within and outside Raunds;
- learning resources.

- working with parents and guardians, and with the wider community, to tackle racial discrimination, and to follow and promote good practice;
- ensuring the Race Equality Policy and its procedures are followed.
Responsibilities
The Governing Body
The governors are responsible for:
- ensuring that the school complies with the amended Race Relations Amendment Act 2000; and
- ensuring that the Race Equality Policy and its procedures are followed.
The Head teacher
The Head teacher is responsible for:
- ensuring that the Race Equality Policy is readily available and that the governors, staff, pupils and their parents and guardians know about it;
- ensuring that the Race Equality Policy and its procedures are followed;
- ensuring that all staff know their responsibilities and receive training and support in carrying these out;
- taking appropriate action in cases of racial harassment and racial discrimination.
All Staff
All staff are responsible for:
- dealing with racist incidents and being able to recognise and tackle racial bias and stereotyping;
- reporting racist incidents to the Head teacher;
- promoting equal opportunities and good race relations, and avoiding discrimination against anyone for reasons of race, colour, nationality or ethnic or national origins;
- keeping up to date with the law on discrimination and taking up training and learning opportunities
- providing learning resources.
Visitors and Contractors
Visitors and contractors are responsible for:
- knowing and following the school Race Equality Policy.
Covering the specific duties
Questions on the implications for race equality will be built into processes for developing and planning future policy documents. Race equality targets will be built into wider strategic plans if considered appropriate.
Ethnic data will be collected when appropriate to monitor pupils' attainment and progress and to set targets. The data will be used to inform planning and decision making.
The staff will monitor, assess and review policies and strategies relevant to race equality to see if they are effective in tackling unlawful racial discrimination. The results of reviews and assessments will be used to inform planning and decision making.
The results of monitoring will be published in the annual governing body report. Any information published should not be able to be used to identify individuals.
Putting the Race Equality Policy into practice
The policy will be reviewed on an annual basis by the governing body. A copy of the policy will be made available to all members of the governing body and to all members of staff.
Breaches of the Policy
Disciplinary action will be taken by the governing body against pupils, staff or others who do not follow the policy.
