Because of the age of our pupils the school does not provide a formal programme of work which covers sex and relationship education. However, children learn about themselves and their relationships with others through PHSE and Science curriculum. Children discuss and think about the following themes:
People in my life – what they do for me and what I do for them
People who help me care for myself
My moods feeling happy and sad
Friendships
Loss and mourning – a person or a pet
Keeping safe – dangers I may meet and saying no
My body and other peoples's bodies – similarities and differences
Growth in people, plants and animals
Changes as we grow
Feelilngs in the family, love jealousy
What helps people to get along with each other – listening, sharing
What makes me happy
What I like or don't like about other people
Caring for myself – hygiene, sleep, exercise
Inside my body – the functions of different parts
If questions are asked by the children they will be answered directly and honestly, with due regard to the child's age and level of understanding.
